Your Boat for Serious Fishing and Days Out with the Family
- powered by the Tectrax system
Amphibious Technology
An amphibious boat drives itself out of the water. No ramp, no trailer reversing, no towing vehicle waiting at the top of the ramp. Flyfin’s Amphibious range runs on the Tectrax T3000 and T4000 Gen2 wheel systems, engineered into the hull from the first design. At the push of a button, the wheels deploy and drive you straight up the beach or shoreline, giving you access to water most boats simply can’t reach.
- Craftmanship
Premium boats hand-welded in Papamoa Beach
Every Flyfin is designed and built at our workshop in Papamoa Beach, not mass-produced, we build 90% in-house for highest quality. It’s a deliberate choice that shows in the ride, the finish and the way these boats hold up season after season.
Design & Configure
Every boat starts with a conversation. Whether it's family days on the water or serious fishing trips, we customise the boat for your personal purpose.
Cut & Form
Each panel is cut and formed on our own CNC router, to the exact shape the design calls for to be welded together afterwards.
Weld & Build
The hull is welded together by hand, panel by panel. Every weld sits exactly where it was designed to.
Fit & Finish
The boat is faired, finished and fitted out under our own roof. Only paint and upholstery leave the building. Everything else is done under our own roof.

Our Story
Nick Fenton, owner and designer of Flyfin boats, has lived and breathed boats since his early childhood. For Nick, a boat has only ever needed to do two things properly: perform and look neat.
The name Flyfin, the two F’s, came from friends and family, and the first boat off the line was built for a cousin. It’s been the same brief ever since: build it like it’s going to someone you love without giving up an ounce of performance.

Hear from Flyfin Owners
“I bought a 2100 HT from Flyfin about a year ago. It’s an excellent boat and very well designed. The layout is functional and is great for family trips with kids or long fishing trips with adults. The boat handles well and looks great. The staff are a very easy team to deal with and they were happy to customise the build to suit my preferences.”
"The 1900BF is an absolute weapon in the chop. For a compact boat, it fishes like something twice its size. Stable at rest, incredibly dry and the layout gives you so much uncluttered deck space to work with. Absolute top-tier build quality from the Flyfin team."
"Stepping up to the 2100 completely changed our weekend on-water routine. The ride is silk-smooth even when the weather turns on us, and the hull design handles the bar crossings with total confidence. You can instantly see the level of engineering and pride that goes into these aluminium hulls."
"The 2100HT gives you the ultimate all-weather shelter without sacrificing any fishability or cockpit room. Excellent visibility, bulletproof build integrity, and it turns heads everywhere we pull up. Brilliant craftmanship from start to finish."
“I've had the pleasure of owning the 2050HT Hard Top Flyfin for several months now, and it's truly exceeded all expectations. The build gives it a strong, safe and stable feel on the water. It handles incredibly well with a smooth, dry ride and excellent visibility. [...] The attention to detail really stands out.If you're looking for a tough, capable, and beautifully built NZ-made boat, I can’t recommend the 2100HT Flyfin enough.”
Frequently Asked Questions
Flyfin Boats is based in Papamoa Beach, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand, where all boats are designed and built.
Aluminium is the better choice for most New Zealand boating. It shrugs off the impact you don't see coming, a rock, a log, a hard landing, without cracking or splitting the way fibreglass can. It doesn't blister or delaminate over time, needs less cosmetic upkeep, and holds its value better over a working life on the water. Fibreglass has its place, but aluminium is what the NZ market runs on, and it's why we made the switch ourselves after starting out in fibreglass.
Flyfin builds three ranges. The Amphibious range (700HTA to 850HTA) uses the Tectrax T3000 Gen2 and T4000 Gen2 wheel systems. The Hardtop range (2050HT to 2600HT) is built for offshore fishing and family use. The Sport Open range (1600 to 1900) has a more open, compact layout. Flyfin also builds the aluminium trailers its boats travel on.
An amphibious boat is one that can move between land and water under its own power, usually with retractable wheels built into the hull. It removes the need for a trailer and ramp at the water's edge. For road travel, Flyfin amphibious boats still go on a Flyfin Aluminium Trailer.
A trailer boat is launched and retrieved using a trailer and a ramp. An amphibious boat has its own wheels built into the hull, so it can move between water and shore under its own power without a ramp. Flyfin's Amphibious range uses the Tectrax wheel system to do this.
No. Amphibious boats like Flyfin's move between the shoreline and the water on their own wheels, but they aren't road-legal vehicles and aren't driven on public roads.
Generally, yes. Aluminium doesn't blister or delaminate the way fibreglass can over time, so a well-maintained aluminium boat typically keeps more of its value.
Flyfin boats are designed and built in-house at Papamoa Beach, Bay of Plenty, by Nick Fenton and the Flyfin team. Nick oversees each boat from initial design through to final fit-out.
Yes. Flyfin Boats is the trading name of Tino Marine Limited, founded in 2015 and based in Papamoa Beach, Bay of Plenty. All boats are designed and built in New Zealand.
A hardtop boat has a fixed roof over the helm and cabin area, giving shelter from sun, wind and rain. An open boat has no fixed roof, which usually means a lighter, more compact layout with more open deck space.
Aluminium hulls generally need less frequent antifouling than fibreglass, though this depends on how the boat is used and stored. Boats kept in the water long-term still need appropriate hull treatment to prevent marine growth and, on aluminium specifically, to manage galvanic corrosion risk.
